The rules in brief
- 12 + 2 months. Twelve months of basic Elterngeld for the two of you, two more if one of you has less income in two months. To use all 14, each of you takes at least two.
- Either of you may take up to 12. The “two partner months” are a habit, not a limit.
- Half the amount, twice as long. One month of basic Elterngeld becomes two months of ElterngeldPlus.
- Up to 4 bonus months. As ElterngeldPlus, for each parent, if you both work 24 to 32 hours a week at the same time, in two to four consecutive months of the child's life. The conditions
