The application itself is free

In Berlin, Brandenburg, Bremen, Hamburg, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Lower Saxony, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saxony-Anhalt, Schleswig-Holstein and Thuringia you fill in the Elterngeld application online for free, at mein-elterngeldantrag.de (in German). You don't need the dossier for that.

What the application asks — who takes which months, and whether as Basiselterngeld, ElterngeldPlus or Partnerschaftsbonus — you decide beforehand. You can work that out in the calculator for free. The dossier records what you decided.

What's in the dossier

  • Your plan on one page: who takes which month of the child's life — Basiselterngeld, ElterngeldPlus, Partnerschaftsbonus — what arrives each month and in total, and what stops a better split.
  • The tax-class page (for married couples): the date by which to apply for the switch, what it changes in your Elterngeld, and how your take-home pay changes until the birth. If a switch changes nothing, the page says exactly that.
  • The working: from gross salary to Elterngeld, line by line with the sections of the Act, so you can lay the office's decision next to it later.
  • A transfer sheet for mein-elterngeldantrag.de: the details from your plan, ready to enter in the online application.
  • Checklists and deadlines: which documents you need, who signs what, and by when. For example: Elterngeld is paid retroactively only for the last three months of the child's life before the month of life in which your application arrives (§ 7(1) BEEG). So if it arrives by the end of the fourth month of life, nothing is lost. Still, apply as early as you can.
  • A letter to your employer: the notice of parental leave (Elternzeit, § 16 BEEG), pre-filled with the periods from your plan. You read it through and send it yourself.
  • A calendar file: the dossier's deadlines for your calendar (.ics).
  • For a paper application: the official application form, filled in from your plan — for the states listed on the federal states page.

Who the dossier is for

Couples who want their plan in writing: to file away, to take to the conversation with an employer, to copy into the online application, and to compare against when the decision arrives.

Everything in the dossier is on screen first, for free. If that is enough for you, you don't need the dossier.

What the dossier is not

  • Not advice. The dossier records what you entered and decided. Nobody looks at your case. The Elterngeldstelle advises free of charge.
  • Not a filing service. You make the application, sign it and send it yourselves. We submit nothing for you.

How it works

  1. You build your plan in the calculator — free.
  2. If you want the dossier, you see the price and payment methods before ordering.
  3. You order with the button „zahlungspflichtig bestellen“ (German for “submit order with obligation to pay”).
  4. The dossier is created on your device. You download it and receive the invoice by email.

Only step 3 costs money.

Withdrawal
